STUDENT LOAN DISCHARGE
It is not always necessary to pay off student loans. Sometimes there are other options to discharge your student loans.
The least popular method is through death. The death of the borrower discharges the loan. Survivors need to send a certified copy of the death certificate to the lender. Remember, if you consolidated and your spouse signed the loan documents, they may still be liable for the loan since they may have converted the loan to community debt. The death of the student for whom a PLUS loan was taken out discharges the loan. Send in a copy of the death certificate.
Forgery makes the loan dischargeable. But you have to assist in prosecution of the offender. How much do you really like that grandchild?
Inability to Benefit may make the loan dischargeable. There are reasons for entrance exams, and one of them is to determine whether or not you have the ability to learn the material. If you do not meet the physical or mental or emotional qualifications to complete a program, it may not be necessary to pay off student loans.
Total disability may make the loans dischargeable. You must be 100% disabled and unable to work or earn money.
There are other discharges available to you as well. For more detailed information on student loan discharges, read “Surviving Your Student Loans”.
