STUDENT LOAN MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE
If you have federally guaranteed student loans, you signed a student loan Master
Promissory Note. That note didn’t have dollar amounts in it, but it did have the terms
and conditions of your loan, including the deferments for which your loan qualifies. The student loan Master Promissory Note covers all disbursements you received from that
lender, whether you got them all one right after another or took a three year break and
went back to school. Until all disbursements under that Master Promissory Note have
been repaid or otherwise discharged, all federally guaranteed student loans you receive
will be under the terms and conditions of that student loan Master Promissory Note.
Hopefully, you kept a copy of it.
If you have lost or misplaced you student loan Master Promissory Note, your lender has a copy of it and can provide it to you. It won’t be a quick and easy process. No, you can’t just got to the government website and download the latest and greatest. The terms and conditions change. You need the one you signed. With your signature on it. Call your lender.
In you Master Promissory Note, you promised to keep your lender apprised of your whereabouts at all times. You promised to make payments, even if you never received the bill. You promised to take the calls from the lender and the collection agency. Failure to do so defaults your student loan. You also agreed to have your wages garnished without court action if you fail to make the payments in a timely fashion.
